Agenda 2030

RETHINKING THE FUTURE: HOW THE 2030 AGENDA SHAPES GLOBAL ACTION

In a world of transformations, the 2030 Agenda remains a precious tool that can guide our actions towards sustainable development from which to rethink growth, justice and the planet’s future.

When the United Nations (UN) adopted the 2030 Agenda in 2015, following the previous attempt with the Millennium Development Goals, the mission behind it was clear: it was a revolutionary way to change the concept of sustainability and development, including 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) addressing social, economic, and environmental targets.

From eradicating poverty to fostering innovation, the Agenda provides a guide to follow and be inspired by, to create a more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient planet. In fact, this web of interdependence makes this visionary project unique, differentiating it from isolated initiatives.

INDIVIDUALS: THEIR ROLE IN THE AGENDA

People are the fundamental part of the Agenda because they can drive the change thanks to participation, creative solutions, and dialogue.

Governments, civil society, businesses, and individuals: everybody plays a crucial role in transforming the concept of sustainability. It means transforming the way we live and think about sustainability, shaping new horizons and landscapes.

This change can be challenging, and dialogue and participation are strategic tools that leaders can use when crafting new panoramas: through dialogue, people can be informed and educated, acquiring pivotal tools that enable connection, integration, and active citizenship.

A NEW IDEA OF SUSTAINABILITY

The 2030 Agenda redefines the concept of sustainability, bringing to the table a new vision in which social justice, gender equality, decent work conditions, environmental changes and economic models coexist to serve the people and the planet, while safeguarding biodiversity.

New global challenges highlight the Agenda’s necessity: only through collective, coordinated action can humanity face systemic risks.

THE POWER OF TECHNOLOGY

Nowadays, it is impossible to not include technology among the drivers for change, as it represents a major tool that can be used when creating and drafting innovative ideas and solutions to the main global challenges.

Technology, once seen as a source of inequality, is now a key ally in achieving the SDGs: from renewable energies, to data-driven platforms to make change visible and accessible, technology helps in monitoring and implementing strategies around the globe.

However, the challenge regarding accessibility and the digital divide persists. Unequal access to digital resources risks deepening disparities between nations and social groups, reminding us that inclusion must be at the heart of innovation.

As 2030 approaches, the Agenda with its SDGs and targets remains a major focus for people around the world, reminding us that future is not predetermined: it is built through action, courage, and vision.
